Getting an annual boiler service is done not only for safety reasons but it will also keep you manufacturers boiler warranty in place, you will need to have your boiler serviced by a Gas Safe Registered engineer. Every appliance needs attention from time to time and a boiler is no different.

You will find prices can vastly change when you come to the end of your tariff and this can leave you paying large amounts of your hard earned cash for the same product.  So much cash that you could go on holiday with the amount you could save.

A boiler is no different – if you don’t have a regular service the common problems that you may notice are your pilot light may keep going out, or your boiler needs resetting. You may notice your hot water temperature fluctuating or your boiler becomes nosier. These are common signs that your boiler is not running efficiently. In the winter months nobody wants to wake to a freezing cold house and no hot water. It is definitely time to get your boiler service done annually.

You may well be asking yourself what does a Boiler service consists of? So we’ve put together a few tips to ensure you know your stuff when your boiler engineer calls.

A good boiler service should include...

  • Firstly and foremost your boiler servicing engineer needs to be fully trained and registered with Gas Safe this ensures he is qualified to do the work on your boiler. A boiler service should take at least 30 minutes and you should get a written report so you can check it through.
  • A visual check of the boiler and flame, if possible Checks on the flue (externally and internally)
  • Checking the operating pressure and / or heat input
  • Checking safety devices
  • Check case seals form an effective seal Boiler casing removed to check all main boiler components (burner, heat exchanger, main injector, spark / sensor probe)
  • Boiler fired safely to identify any working faults Boiler parts cleaned, if necessary
  • A service report showing everything the engineer has done
  • Most boilers have five years warranty and your warranty should be checked before paying for additional parts.
  • You may wish to take out full cover for complete peace of mind or you need an annual service to ensure your warranty for parts and labour is not lost.
  • Carbon dioxide detectors are a good indicator that something is wrong and worth investing in one, as they alert you to carbon dioxide.
