Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life Review 2026: Pricing, Pros & Cons

Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life Review 2026: Pricing, Pros & Cons

The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life is a big, high-output gas boiler for family homes with two or more bathrooms. It came in combi, system and regular versions, and it took over from the long-running Greenstar CDi Classic.

It’s no longer Worcester’s current model. The 8000 Life and 8000 Style were replaced by the Greenstar 8000+ range in September 2024. We’ve written this review for two groups: people who already have an 8000 Life on the wall, and people weighing up the 8000+ against other large combis.

What Are The Greenstar 8000 Life’s Key Specs?

It’s a 780mm-tall wall-hung gas boiler, sold as a 30kW to 50kW combi plus system and regular versions, and it’s now discontinued.

What Is The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life?

It was the top wall-hung boiler in Worcester’s range, launched as the successor to the Greenstar CDi Classic.

The CDi Classic had been one of the most widely fitted premium combis in the UK. Worcester kept the same pipe connections, flue position and fixing points on the 8000 Life. That let an installer swap one for the other without reworking the pipes under the boiler.

There were two versions. The Life is the white model with a push-button LCD display, and its fault codes are laid out much like the CDi Classic’s, which engineers found familiar.

The Greenstar 8000 Style shares the same internals but has a glass front, a full colour touchscreen and a black or white finish. If looks matter to you, we cover that model in our Greenstar 8000 Style review.

What Replaced The Greenstar 8000 Life?

The Greenstar 8000+ and 8000+ Style replaced it in September 2024.

The case is still 780 x 440 x 365mm, so it’s still a big boiler. Combi outputs have shifted slightly to 32kW, 36kW, 40kW, 45kW and 50kW. System versions come in 30kW and 35kW, and regular versions run from 30kW to 50kW.

Most of the changes are to the controls and set-up. The 8000+ gets a full colour display with backlit touch buttons, a keyless filling link on the combis and easier access to the hydraulic block for servicing.

Worcester’s installer literature quotes hot water flow of roughly 13.7 l/min for the 32kW and 15.2 l/min for the 36kW. The 40kW is listed at about 17.1 l/min, all at a 35°C rise.

If you’re buying new in 2026, you’ll be quoted for an 8000+ rather than an 8000 Life. The rest of this review still applies closely, because the two share the same job and much of the same design.

What Are The 8000 Life’s Key Features?

Its main strengths are strong hot water output, five combi sizes and an easy swap for an old CDi Classic.

  • High hot water output. The larger combis can run a shower and a hot tap together without the flow collapsing, as long as the mains supply keeps up.
  • Choice of sizes. Five combi outputs make it easier to match the boiler to the house instead of oversizing it.
  • Like-for-like CDi Classic swap. Matching connections keep labour down when you’re replacing an older Worcester.
  • Smart control support. It works with Worcester and Bosch room thermostats and smart controls, including load and weather compensating options.
  • Hidden pipework. The pipes run up behind the case, which looks tidier on a kitchen wall.

How Efficient Is The Greenstar 8000 Life?

It’s ErP A rated for heating, with a seasonal efficiency of around 94%.

That puts it level with other premium condensing boilers. In practice, how it’s set up matters more than the badge.

We usually turn the flow temperature down so the boiler condenses more of the time. Pairing it with a weather or load compensating control helps too. Together, those changes tend to save more gas than the gap between two A-rated boilers.

The bigger risk with a boiler this size is oversizing. A 50kW combi in a three-bed semi with one bathroom will cycle on and off and waste fuel. Our guide on how to size a combi boiler explains how we work out the right output.

What Are The Pros And Cons Of The Greenstar 8000 Life?

It’s a strong, well-supported boiler for big homes, but it’s discontinued, bulky and too powerful for small houses.

Pros

  • Strong hot water flow from the 40kW and larger combis
  • Combi, system and regular versions, so it suits most heating layouts
  • Straightforward swap for a Greenstar CDi Classic
  • Simple, familiar push-button controls
  • Well supported by engineers and parts suppliers

Cons

  • Discontinued, so new installs will be the 8000+ instead
  • Large case that rarely fits inside a standard kitchen cupboard
  • Costs more than the Greenstar 4000 or mid-range rivals
  • Too powerful for smaller homes with one bathroom

What Size Home Does The Greenstar 8000 Life Suit?

It suits three and four-bedroom homes with two bathrooms, or an en suite plus a family bathroom.

The 30kW to 36kW combis work well in a larger three-bed with good mains pressure. The 40kW and above are aimed at four-bed homes where two showers often run at once.

A combi can only deliver what the incoming main allows, though.

If your water main gives less than about 15 litres a minute, a bigger combi won’t fix weak showers. Our engineers often find a system boiler with an unvented cylinder is the better answer in that case. Our round-up of the best system boilers covers the options.

How Much Does It Cost To Install In 2026?

Expect roughly £3,000 to £4,800 for a straightforward 8000+ combi replacement, depending on output.

The figures below are guide ranges for a simple swap by a registered installer. They include the boiler, flue, filter, controls and labour. They aren’t quotes.

Prices vary with output, flue route and any pipework changes. Converting from a regular or system setup adds cost, and so can where you live.

Model (current 8000+ equivalent) Typical installed price guide
32kW to 36kW combi £3,000 to £3,900
40kW combi £3,300 to £4,300
45kW to 50kW combi £3,700 to £4,800
30kW to 35kW system boiler (existing cylinder kept) £3,200 to £4,300
Conversion from regular boiler to combi Add £600 to £1,500

What Are The Best Alternatives To The Greenstar 8000 Life?

The Greenstar 8000+ is the obvious choice, with the Greenstar 4000 better for smaller homes.

  • Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000+. The direct successor, with updated controls and the same focus on larger homes.
  • Worcester Bosch Greenstar 4000. Better value for smaller homes with one bathroom, in a more compact case.
  • Vaillant ecoTEC exclusive. Vaillant’s premium combi, offered in 35kW and 43kW outputs. A good rival if you’d prefer a stainless steel heat exchanger.
  • Other high-output combis. We compare the strongest options in our best 40kW combi boilers review.

Is The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life Worth It?

Yes, if yours is under 8 years old and healthy: keep it serviced every year. Once it passes 8 years, replacing it is usually better value than paying for repairs.

If you’re buying new, you’ll be offered the 8000+. It’s a good choice for larger homes with real hot water demand, and a poor fit for a small flat.

Choose it if

  • You have two or more bathrooms and decent mains pressure
  • You’re replacing a Greenstar CDi Classic and want a clean swap
  • You want a premium Worcester with a choice of combi, system or regular

Look elsewhere if

  • You live in a flat or a smaller home with one bathroom
  • The boiler has to fit inside a standard kitchen cupboard
  • Your budget points to a mid-range model such as the Greenstar 4000

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Worcester Greenstar 8000 Life Discontinued?

Yes. Worcester Bosch replaced the 8000 Life and 8000 Style with the Greenstar 8000+ and 8000+ Style in September 2024. Some merchants may still hold old stock, but new installs are normally the 8000+.

What Is The Difference Between The 8000 Life And 8000 Style?

Mainly looks and controls. The Life is white with a push-button display, while the Style has a glass front, a colour touchscreen and a black or white finish. Size for size, performance is the same.

Will A Greenstar 8000 Life Fit In A Kitchen Cupboard?

Usually not. It’s 780mm tall, 440mm wide and 365mm deep, which is larger than most compact combis. It normally goes on a utility room or kitchen wall, or in an airing cupboard.

What Size Greenstar 8000 Do I Need?

Most three-bed homes with two bathrooms suit a 32kW to 36kW combi. Four-bed homes with two or more showers often need 40kW or more, and a heat loss check plus a mains flow test will confirm it.

How Often Should A Greenstar 8000 Life Be Serviced?

Once a year, by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Annual servicing keeps it running efficiently and is usually a condition of any warranty cover.
