Vaillant 32kW Combi Boiler Review 2026 (ecoTEC Plus 832): Pricing, Pros & Cons

Vaillant 32kW Combi Boiler Review 2026 (ecoTEC Plus 832): Pricing, Pros & Cons

Vaillant’s 32kW combi is the ecoTEC plus 832, a wall-hung gas condensing boiler for medium-sized homes. It’s for households that need more hot water than a typical starter combi can supply. It suits three and four-bedroom homes with one main bathroom, or a bathroom plus an en-suite that aren’t in heavy use at the same moment.

It’s still on sale in 2026, but not in its original form. The 832 most homes have on the wall today belongs to the previous generation, which Vaillant has discontinued. In 2023 it was replaced by a remastered ecoTEC plus 832 with a wider modulation range and an updated control panel. This review covers both, so it’s useful whether you own the older boiler or you’re pricing up a new one.

What Are The Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 832’s Key Specs?

Both versions give 13 litres per minute of hot water, but the current 832 turns down to 3.5kW for heating against 5.7kW on the old one.

What Is The Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 832?

It’s the 32kW model in Vaillant’s higher-spec ecoTEC plus combi range.

That range sits above the mainstream ecoTEC Pro range and below the premium ecoTEC exclusive. The current line-up runs 826, 832, 836, 840 and 940, replacing the older 825, 832, 835, 838 and 938.

As with most combis, the 32 in the name refers to hot water. Heating output on the current 832 tops out at 24.9kW, which is plenty for most three and four-bedroom houses. What sets it apart from a smaller combi is its 13 litres per minute of hot water.

You might also come across the ecoTEC exclusive 832. That’s a different, more premium boiler from an earlier generation, and it’s no longer made. If you have one, Vaillant’s current exclusive range is the like-for-like step.

What Features Does The ecoTEC Plus 832 Have?

The key features are a wide modulation range, ioniDETECT combustion control, a stainless steel heat exchanger and smart control support.

How Low Can The Remastered 832 Modulate?

Down to 3.5kW on heating, against 5.7kW on the old model. That’s the biggest change in the remastered version.

In spring and autumn, when a house only needs a little heat, it can run steadily instead of switching on and off. You use less gas, and the parts get less wear.

What Is ioniDETECT?

It’s Vaillant’s combustion control, which monitors the flame and adjusts the gas and air mix by itself. It helps the boiler burn cleanly across its whole output range and adapts as conditions change.

What Is The Heat Exchanger Made Of?

Stainless steel, across the whole ecoTEC plus range. It copes well with the acidic condensate that every condensing boiler produces.

Does It Work With Smart Controls?

Yes. The 832 works with Vaillant’s sensoHOME and sensoCOMFORT controls and with the myVAILLANT app through an internet gateway.

Pair it with an outdoor sensor for weather compensation, which lowers the flow temperature on milder days. It also works with standard programmers and thermostats. See our smart thermostats page for the options.

Is It Easy To Service?

Yes. The casing is the same height and width as Vaillant’s other wall-hung combis, and our engineers are very familiar with it. Parts for both generations are widely stocked.

How Efficient Is The ecoTEC Plus 832?

Both generations are ErP A-rated for heating and hot water, and Vaillant quotes efficiency of up to 94%.

In practice, the newer model’s lower minimum output is what makes the difference to your bills. It lets the boiler run longer at low output, and that’s where most heating hours are spent.

A condensing boiler is only as good as the system around it. A lower flow temperature, balanced radiators and a magnetic filter help it stay in condensing mode.

In England, Boiler Plus rules mean a new combi needs time and temperature control plus one more energy-saving measure. That might be weather compensation, load compensation or a smart thermostat with automation and optimisation.

Swapping an old non-condensing boiler for an 832 will usually give a noticeable cut in gas use. The exact saving depends on how you heat your home.

What Are The Pros And Cons Of The ecoTEC Plus 832?

The main pros are 13 litres per minute and a low 3.5kW minimum output. The main cons are a higher price than an ecoTEC Pro and limits with two busy bathrooms.

Pros

  • 13 litres per minute of hot water, a clear step up from the ecoTEC Pro range
  • Low 3.5kW minimum output on the current model for steady, efficient running
  • A-rated for heating and hot water
  • Stainless steel heat exchanger
  • Can be set up for LPG
  • Works with Vaillant smart controls and the myVAILLANT app
  • Same footprint as most Vaillant combis, which makes like-for-like swaps simpler

Cons

  • Costs more than an ecoTEC Pro of similar size
  • Still not ideal for two bathrooms used at the same time
  • The current model is 14mm deeper than the old one, so check the fit in a tight cupboard
  • Smart controls and weather compensation are extras
  • Extra hot water capacity is wasted if your mains supply is weak

What Size Home Does The ecoTEC Plus 832 Suit?

It suits three and four-bedroom homes with up to around 15 to 18 radiators and one main bathroom, or a bathroom and en-suite rarely used together.

It’ll run a good mixer shower while someone uses the kitchen tap, with less drop in flow than the ecoTEC Pro models.

Two bathrooms in regular use at the same time are a different story. Look at the ecoTEC plus 836 or 840, or consider a system boiler with an unvented cylinder. For smaller homes, the ecoTEC Pro 28 or ecoTEC Pro 30 will usually do the job for less.

A combi can’t deliver more than your mains supply, so we check incoming flow and pressure at the survey. Our guide on how to size a combi boiler explains the process.

How Much Does An ecoTEC Plus 832 Cost To Install In 2026?

A straight combi swap typically costs £2,500 to £3,300 fitted, rising to around £4,400 for a system-to-combi conversion.

These guide ranges cover supplying and fitting the current ecoTEC plus 832, including a standard flue, a magnetic filter, a chemical flush and basic controls.

Type of job Guide installed price
Combi to combi swap, same position £2,500 to £3,300
Combi swap with boiler moved or new flue route £3,000 to £3,800
System or regular boiler converted to combi £3,300 to £4,400

These are guide figures, and prices vary from one job to the next. Pipework condition, gas pipe size, flue route and your choice of controls all affect the final price.

What Are The Best Alternatives To The ecoTEC Plus 832?

The ecoTEC Pro 30 is the cheaper step down, while the ecoTEC plus 836 and 840 give more hot water.

  • Vaillant ecoTEC Pro 30: 12.3 litres per minute in a simpler, cheaper boiler.
  • Vaillant ecoTEC plus 836: 14.6 litres per minute for homes with higher hot water demand.
  • Vaillant ecoTEC plus 840: 16.3 litres per minute, the largest standard combi in the range.
  • Other brands: our best combi boiler reviews compare Vaillant with Worcester Bosch, Ideal and Baxi. Our Vaillant boilers review covers the brand as a whole.

Is The Vaillant 32kW Combi Boiler Worth It?

Yes, for a medium-sized home that has outgrown a smaller combi.

The current ecoTEC plus 832 gives a useful jump in hot water over the ecoTEC Pro range. Its low minimum output also makes it efficient in everyday running.

Own the older 832? If it’s over 8 years old, replacing it is usually better value than paying for repairs. The remastered 832 is the natural like-for-like swap.

Choose It If

  • You have a three or four-bedroom home with one main bathroom
  • Your current combi struggles when two taps run at once
  • You want the efficiency benefits of a wide modulation range
  • You’re replacing an older ecoTEC plus 832 or 835
  • Your home runs on LPG and you want a higher-output combi

Look Elsewhere If

  • You have two busy bathrooms used at the same time
  • You live in a flat or small house where an ecoTEC Pro would do
  • Your mains water flow is limited
  • You want the lowest possible upfront price

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 832 Discontinued?

The original ecoTEC plus 832 is discontinued, but the name carries on. Vaillant replaced it in 2023 with a remastered 832 that has a lower minimum output, ioniDETECT combustion control and an updated control panel.

What Size House Is A 32kW Combi Boiler Suitable For?

Most three and four-bedroom homes with one main bathroom and up to around 15 to 18 radiators. Homes with two bathrooms in use at the same time are better off with a larger combi or a system boiler.

What Is The Difference Between The ecoTEC Plus And ecoTEC Pro?

The ecoTEC plus has a wider modulation range, a stainless steel heat exchanger and higher hot water flow rates in its larger sizes. The ecoTEC Pro is simpler and cheaper, and suits smaller single-bathroom homes.

Can The ecoTEC Plus 832 Run On LPG?

Yes. The current 832 can be adapted for LPG at installation. Our LPG and oil boilers page explains what’s involved.

How Long Does A Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 832 Last?

Many keep running past 10 years with annual servicing. By around 8 years old, though, efficiency has usually dropped and faults become more common, so replacing it is often better value than paying for repairs.
